Hi All!
Welcome to the 13th edition of Marketing Concepts! In this edition, we'll explore key principles that will help you effectively learn growth marketing. But before we dive into my specific recommendations, I’d like to briefly introduce you to a few fundamental learning techniques that I have used throughout my career to effectively speed up and, most importantly, improve my comprehension rate when learning new disciplines.
In this post, you’ll learn about:
How the brain uses two very different learning modes and how it encapsulates (“chunks”) information.
The importance of failure and rapid feedback.
We’ll also cover my favorite memory techniques and tips on how to deal with procrastination.
Use these approaches to enhance your understanding of a topic, regardless of your skill level. My goal here is to help you make the best use of your time on homework and problem sets.
Principles for Rapid Skill Acquisition
Josh Kaufman, in his book 'The First 20 Hours', developed a practical guide to rapid skill acquisition. Here’s how you can apply it:
Apply Pareto’s Law: Break down the skills into parts and focus on the most important aspects first.
Use reference materials to learn enough so that you can recognize when you make a mistake and correct yourself. Try to get feedback from others when in doubt.
Remove distractions and excuses to focus your attention on learning.
Practice deliberately for at least 7 hours a week (this is 1 hour a day).
Document your progress.

How to easily memorize the things that matter
Improving your ability to memorize the ins and outs of new principles and concepts will definitely speed up your learning process. However, memorizing things isn’t easy nowadays, which is why I recommend using the ancient Memory Palace technique. This method helps you easily memorize new concepts by associating them with a "palace" or place very familiar to you. Here's how to start using the Memory Palace technique:
Visualize a place you are very familiar with and define a particular route around it.
Identify distinctive features sequentially as you follow the defined route around your palace.
Associate new concepts or ideas sequentially with each of the features of your palace.
Deliberate Practice
Deliberate practice is a special type of systematic & purposeful practice conducted with the specific goal of improving performance over time.
“To become exceptional you have to put in a lot of hours, but of equal importance, these hours have to be dedicated to the right type of work. A decade of serious chess playing will earn you an intermediate tournament ranking. But a decade of serious study of chess games can make you a grandmaster.” Cal Newport
Learning Growth Marketing
Now that we've covered the basics of learning, let’s dig into the specifics of Growth Marketing. As mentioned before, I view “Growth Marketing” as the process of delivering value to users at every stage of their journey. This requires a strategic, holistic approach across multiple disciplines and business units. Being proficient in one acquisition channel, such as SEO, is not enough.
